The instant that the sirens went off, Ruby wanted to shift and run to the school and marina to make sure Annie and Syracuse were all right. There had been a 'sense' in the wind for her but she hadn't thought anything about it. it hadn't helped that it was the day of the full moon either. That only added to her not knowing what was danger and what was the moon.

It didn't feel like the curse coming in the Enchanted Forest but after the siren when she began to smell all the decay of flesh, Ruby knew this was bad. WITH A CAPITAL B. When it cleared away, she ran (in human form) to the school but she cheated and used her werewolf speed to get there faster. That was when she saw Annie up ahead.

"Annie!"

The guards at the gate were trying to stop her from leaving, even though Annie insisted that she needed to go find her Da.

She heard her name called out and she whipped around, seeing Ruby and relief flooded through her right before the panic set in.

It smelled horrible out here and it was still scary, there were other noises, too. Those of people that could be hurt. She ran to Ruby after struggling to get away from a guard.

"Ruby!" She was all right. She was all right. And once she reached Ruby, Annie threw her arms around her middle, her face buried against her belly.

Ruby's arms went around Annie almost the instant that she felt the small weight against her. "It'll be all right." Not that Ruby knew that for sure but whatever those beings were they would have to go through a pissed off, territorial werewolf to get to Annie.

You're all right - you're all right..." Annie stayed in that embrace for a while, feeling secure until she looks up at Ruby, brows drawn.

"Da--" They had to get to the Marina. "He's on his boat--" What if something had happened to him, swept off to sea or attacked by monstrous sea creatures?

Ruby felt her heart clench thinking of Syracuse alone on the boat out on the water with no resources to get or call for help if he needed it. "Come on, we'll go look in on your dad and then we're all going to the hotel."

That would be the safest, at least Red assumed so. Red slipped her hand in Annie's, holding on to her tight.

Annie grabbed hold of Ruby's hand, maybe tighter than she intended. She didn't want to lose him amidst the chaos going on in front of the school.

They rushed toward the Marina, Annie's head whipping about because there were so many people, some injured, and other things on the ground she didn't want to think too much about.

All she wanted to know, what she needed to know -- was her Da safe? Please let her Da be safe.

When he'd heard the siren and the fog had rolled in, Syracuse hadn't thought much of it, not really.

But it kept getting darker and darker. And the noises he heard from shore weren't good, not at all.

But he didn't dare try to go close to shore, not with the fog. He had to be careful, moving at a snail's pace. He needed to get to Annie. He needed to get to his daughter.

So when the fog lifted just as suddenly, he raced to shore as fast as he could, mooring his boat and running as fast as he could toward the village and the school.

Ruby tried to shield Annie's vision of what was around them as much as possible with her body but with Annie's curiosity she knew that was probably a lost cause. So instead, she tried to reassure her. "This won't last long. Remember when our voices were gone? Only a few days." She didn't want to think about the curse that lasted twenty eight years or what could happen in the few days.

Ruby hadn't made it back to the hotel before the pull to change hit her and hit her hard. She headed into the woods, as deep into the shadows as she could before the wolf sprang.

The scents before had been horrible but now they were almost overwhelming and the large black wolf chuffed at the smell. Her head turned toward the water, every instinct in her being was to protect so she made her way back to the water's edge and began to pace, watching the darkness for danger to her pack.

When the sirens went again, Syracuse steered the boat away from the dock, far enough so that things couldn't get to them. They both slept fitfully, to be honest, too. The sounds coming from shore made it hard for both of them.

Syracuse tried to tell Annie stories, but he really was a shite storyteller.

However, when dawn came, he was awake and he was aiming the boat toward shore, only to stop short at the sound of the sirens again.

"Shite," he whispered. Could he dare to try to get to Ruby if it put Annie in danger?

Annie barely slept and the sound of the siren had her trembling again.

Wrapped in a thick and long blanket she peeked out the window of the pilot house, her eyes noticing they were nearing the shore.

"Ruby," she said in a whisper, stepping close to her Da stirring the boat. "We have ta get Ruby."

Ruby had killed during the night. Killed to protect Annie and Syracuse and there wasn't a regret in doing so. But when she'd shifted back to human form with the day break, Ruby had the scars of her battles. They were healing faster than normal, but still there. Luckily, her clothes covered them so Annie and Syracuse wouldn't see when she saw them on the docks.

That was where her thoughts were when the siren rang again just as she stepped onto the wooden dock.

"Ruby!" Syracuse saw her and felt a surge of ... something.

"Annie," he said, touching his daughter's shoulders. "Steer the boat like I taught ya. I'll get her."

"Ruby!" he called again. They were on their way.

Annie did as told, her eyes wanting to watch what was going on but her Da had taught her, and taught her well.

She focused on stirring, even if her heart was pounding too strong for her small chest.

Ruby felt a presence in the trees, a darkness that raised the hackles on her spine. She used her superior speed and strength running along the dock toward the end and toward the boat.

"Catch me!" It was the only warning Syracuse got before Red launched herself off the end of the dock, hurtling through the air and toward Syracuse.

"Christ," Syracuse muttered. But she was light and he could catch her, only staggering a bit. "Back to sea, Annie!" he called, not setting Ruby down just yet.

"Ruby! Da!" Annie kept looking behind her, trying to see what was going on but she was told to stir the boat away from the shore.

With her hands shaking, she turned the wheel slowly, her eyes stinging with tears that she wiped away, trying to see through the dense fog and take them slowly to safety.

The sun was coming up on Sunday and Syracuse couldn't help but think that it would be nice if this ... whatever it was ... ended sooner rather than later.

He was tired, but they all were, dark circles under their eyes. Annie slept near his hip, his fingers tracing through her hair. His daughter had seen too much, been through too much; it made his chest hurt.

He saw that Ruby was awake and though his expression didn't change, it seemed like he smiled at her. "You all right." A question without being one.

"Yeah. A little sore but I usually am for a couple of days after I shift." Ruby spoke softly, not wanting to wake up Annie. Her gaze took in Syracuse and the tired lines around his eyes.

Reaching over Annie, Syracuse touched her fingers with his. He was glad she was all right, that they were. That the boat seemed to be a safe place to be. "Will ya have to go back tonight?"

Red stretched her hand just a little more to put her fingers more in touch with his, subtly. When she had seen them that morning on the boat, the relief that flooded her was like a wave.

Her head shook, "no I'm only forced to shift one night. I can stay on the boat until we go back to dock." There was a pause, "hopefully not much longer." She really didn't like this.

The Lucy D was far from a luxury vessel. But Syracuse looked down at her hands, they were soft, not like his rough from the ropes and the nets of fishing.

"Annie'll be glad to know that." And so would he; perhaps his face gave that away even if his words didn't.

"I really don't know how long this will last. It's usually only a couple of days but I've never experienced anything like this before." Well not in the village. "Will the Lucy D be okay anchored off shore for a while if it drags on?"

"She's a good boat," Syracuse said as a means of saying yes. "Just need to get some food when we can." Comfort food, things to make it seem less horrible.

He brushed his fingers over her knuckles. "I'm glad you're here," he admitted, feeling a flush across his cheeks. It took much to admit that.

Red felt her cheeks heat with a blush and she smiled at Syracuse, "I'm glad I'm here, too. Maybe next time there's a calm in the storm, I can make a run to Tron."

Or a run to Starlings with a promise to pay back what they took.
