Valentine's Shopping - OTA

It wouldn't be the first time that she and Riley celebrated Valentine's Day in the village, but it was the first that she had a fiance to buy for. She glanced down at the engagement ring on her finger as she sat at an outside table at the cafe. Technically, Buffy was still the other woman with the Riley in her timeline married to Sam, and happily married. But Riley's proposal had felt right. Like if she'd taken Xander's advice sooner or pulled her head out of her ass faster, this might have actually happened.

Yes, she was aware that it was a fantasy and that when either returned it wouldn't exist. But, in the village, right now, Buffy was an engaged woman shopping for a present for Valentine's Day.

Hehehe it was about time they ran into each other again =)

Oddly enough, it was exactly the same situation that Lucas found himself in. He doubted he could top proposing at Christmas, but he felt he had to at least try.

Glancing in the window of the book store, he wondered if Martha would appreciate a book for Valentine's Day. He suspected she would appreciate pretty much anything as long as he had given it thought. Glancing in the window, he saw a familiar silhouette crossing the street, someone he hadn't seen for a while, and turned, walking towards her. "Buffy. Long time no see."

Buffy turned at the familiar voice and smiled wide in pleasure. "Hey you, it has been a while. How've you been?"

"Well sort of crazy." Buffy admitted. "I don't like too crazy, save the world kind. I'm good with that being a permanent vacation but adrenalin pumping, helping others crazy -- yeah I miss that a lot sometimes."

"Oh very good. There were so many times growing up that I wanted to just be normal but it's who I am. Literally but still also it just feels right when I can do what I've always done." She smiled slightly. "It feels good to help and save people, defeating the big bad. What about you? Do you feel good when you can do this?"

"I feel good about helping to save people. If people get in my way doing it, I don't feel bad about stopping them," Lucas said with a small sigh. "I promised to help the innocent."

"Exactly and it feels good to do that here. I mean sure Village Guard and all that which I'm part of but it feels good to be able to do what you're used to. What makes you you." Buffy nodded. "We don't get that opportunity as much as people that are cops or jewelers or bartenders back home."

Buffy fiddled with her engagement ring again and smiled at Lucas. "A home in the suburbs where you can just be a normal person. That's why I'm not really all the big of a hurry to go back. Yes, I miss Dawn my sister a lot, but here, I only get the save the world once every few months instead of every day."

Lucas, always being on the lookout for what people did, caught the action, and smiled slightly. "But you've managed to carve a life for yourself, I see," he said, nodding at her hand. "Congratulations are in order then?"

It seemed like more than him and Martha had decided to settle down here.

"No, I'm not sure Martha would want to share the date, either. Some time around the beginning of May, I think she's tending towards." Lucas didn't know many people here, having kept himself to himself, so Martha was doing most of the planning.

"A Spring wedding. That'll be nice. I haven't picked a date yet." Buffy confessed. "I don't want to do cliche with June bride but I'd like a summer one."

Everyone that she'd want at her wedding wasn't in the village anymore. She'd always thought Giles would take the place of her father in giving her away. Not that Buffy thought she'd ever get married in the real world, but she'd dreamed about it since Angel.
