So far, the only people in the village aware that Cora has arrived, are Daniel and Archie, but Regina knows that she can't keep this secret forever. She has to tell everyone, but the only other person she thinks to tell right now is Emma Swan. If her mother had her magic then it would be a different matter entirely. She's telling Emma, she tells herself, because of Henry. Which makes her thoughts drift to what her mother said.

They'll never think of you as anything other than a wretched, evil queen, Regina.

Her eyes close, even as she sits at the cafe table. Whatever's happening in Storybrooke, it's not Haurvatat. She still has a chance at this, to be a better person. And that starts with talking to Ms. Swan. Checking her watch, Regina takes a sip of her coffee, wondering why she'd expected punctuality from the other woman.

Red carried her mug of coffee toward a table when she noticed Regina glance at her watch and glance around. Normally, she wouldn't have interrupted her but there was a tension in every line of her body even if it was well masked. The old Ruby would have walked by, not feeling concern or caring but she couldn't any more.

They might never be friends, and Ruby might not ever totally trust Regina but she'd caught glimpses of another side of her and she'd be hypocritical not giving her her second chance when she was the recipient of one.

"Is everything all right?" Red asked quietly, stopping by the table.

Regina actually jumps, having been so lost in her thoughts that even a gentle approach startles her.

"Fine," she says curtly, obviously lying even as she tries to relax. But, there's been progress in getting people to not hate her, despite what her mother thinks. So, she closes her eyes and takes a breath, trying again.

"I've had better days."

"I'm sorry." It wasn't a platitude, but sincerely meant. She doubted the offer would be accepted but Red put it out there anyway. "Is there anything that I can do?"

"Only if you can make people in this village disappear," Regina says wryly, taking a sip of her coffee. That she's saying it, implies that she hasn't actually done it herself. Though the idea does amuse; turning her mother into an insect or animal.

It was on the tip of her tongue to say that if she could Regina would have been gone when she first learned she was there. Instead, she shook her head with a wry smile. "Sorry, can't do that. Who do you want to disappear, if you don't mind my asking." Ruby was pretty sure that Regina would have no problem telling her if she did mind.

She actually hesitates, playing with the edge of her napkin as she thinks about what she should do. Tell Ruby and give her that much more? Or keep her at arms length?

Finally though, she gives in, but she doesn't look up at Ruby. She doesn't even know how much the other woman knows about Cora, if anything.

"My mother. She arrived on Sunday. I'd rather she go back to Wonderland, but she's apparently also in Storybrooke."
